Tile And Laminate Flooring

Tile and laminate flooring are the most popular. They can be found in almost every apartment as a continuous indoor coating.

Combined Floor: Tiles + Laminate When Renovation

Tile and laminate flooring are the most popular. They can be found in almost every apartment as a continuous indoor coating. However, the combined floor – tile + laminate – will allow not only to approach the decoration wisely but also to save money and emphasize the room’s design.

The variety of combinations gives a lot of creativity. However, for the combination to look good, it is necessary to develop the room’s entire design – taking into account the geometry, color of the walls, and the overall style. Let’s talk about some of the most popular options.

Why install a combined tile + laminate floor?

It seems, why to complicate things: in the hallway, in the kitchen, in the bathroom – tiles, in the room – laminate. People are thinking about more practicality, comfort – even auxiliary rooms like a hallway or a corridor can be much more comfortable if you make a multi-piece floor.

The combination of the advantages of both types of coating makes the kitchen cozy and convenient not only for cooking but also simply as a place for family holidays.

There are several ways to combine coverage

  • the tile goes only along the perimeter of the kitchen unit, and the rest is laminate;
  • only the dining table area stands out with ceramic panels;
  • the room is divided into exactly two halves by a straight or curly connection.

Tile and laminate flooring options in the hallway

In the hallway, they also often arrange a combined floor – tiles and laminate. There are several reasons for this:

  • the laminate can look harmoniously with the design of the rest of the apartment – the hallways often smoothly transition into the corridor, and it should not differ sharply from the rooms where it leads;
  • tiles tolerate moisture much better – laminated panels can get wet and begin to puff up, “float with bubbles”;
  • “Warm floor” in the hallway is a convenient solution for soft drying of shoes and accessories – in the case of tiles, it is much more functional since it does not emit harmful substances and does not deteriorate from heating.

The main advantages of the tiles in the entrance area are their water resistance and ease of cleaning. Once the person has removed their shoes at the entrance, it will be more comfortable to switch to a warmer-feeling laminate. This is the logic behind the arrangement of the combined floor.

In general, it is recommended for premises of this kind to use lighter coatings and not use sharp contrasting colors. So, for example, for light tiles (like white marble, milky shades), a laminate like oak, beech, pine is well suited. On ceramic panels or porcelain stoneware in dark shades, dirt and watermarks will be more visible, while, for example, imitation marble with veins can hide dirt.

Features of connecting zones

There are a large number of options for joining tile and laminate areas:

  • in a straight line;
  • zigzag;
  • curvilinear (arcs);
  • with inlay elements – when a fragment of a tile is placed in the laminate canvas and vice versa;
  • on the same level or with a nut (up to the height of the podium).

Let’s talk separately about inlay. This can be a continuation of the selected area or separate decorative inclusions. For example, part of a room can be separated from another by skipping between them a strip of narrow ceramic tiles with a pattern – for example, in the style of Morocco or Provence. Such elements will add zest to the interior.

The junction zone of the materials itself requires a special careful study – moreover, even at the level of floor preparation and precise adjustment of the substrate. Some repair teams are not careful about this. Therefore gaps are possible between the coatings, the cut of the panels is sloppy, and they are trying to mask this with sills overlapping the joint. However, in this case, the effect of flowing from one coating to another is lost; in addition, the sills from the profile are applicable only for connections at right angles.

The exact fit of all elements is the key to success. It is also necessary to pay special attention to the sealing of the connection.
